Our Story

The journey of Zimbabwe Lacrosse Association (ZLA) began with inspiration and guidance from the late Rufus Ntiamoah, the first president of the Africa Association of Lacrosse (AAL). A passionate advocate for expanding lacrosse across the continent, Rufus encouraged and mentored Zimbabwean leaders to lay the foundation for the sport locally. His support helped spark conversations and planning that would lead to Zimbabwe’s official entry into the global lacrosse community.

In October 2023, Zimbabwe proudly became a member of World Lacrosse, marking a significant milestone in its sporting history. The Zimbabwe Lacrosse Association (ZLA) was formally established to promote, develop, and manage the growth of lacrosse throughout the country. Since then, ZLA has led grassroots initiatives — including youth clinics, school outreach, and coach training — aimed at building a strong and inclusive lacrosse culture in Zimbabwe.
Though still in its early stages, the association is driven by a clear mission: to use lacrosse as a tool for education, empowerment, and unity among young Zimbabweans. With continued collaboration across Africa and the diaspora, ZLA is working toward developing national teams and expanding access to equipment, knowledge, and international competition.
